finding the words to describe the past few months has been difficult. let's start with one: excited

so. our first single has been officially out since october 22, 2025. three-ish months later, it still feels surreal that something we wrote together is just out into the world for whoever wants to hear...

it feels like a big accomplishment, which i think's because it is. it's also the beginning of everything else, including another single we're trying to get made in the first half of this year (doorway!)

also, something i've been trying to figure out for myself is what exact genre we are. in the end, it doesn't matter that much and we can probably keep calling ourselves an indie band, but it's still too vague for me to confidently tell people that when they ask what kind of music we make. lol. so, i've been hopping around random genre pages on the internet, listening and relistening to different bands. actually, this was what led me to reassess who and what inspires me in the first place, and what led me to creating this playlist.

here's some genres i considered: midwestern emo, pop punk, indie rock, emo-pop. midwestern emo is immediately a no because... we live in california. i'm not trying to be something i'm not. pop punk seemed alright for a moment because i do listen to it a lot, but, while i'm inspired by it, the music doesn't really come across that way. indie rock is like... ehhh... just a very vague term that's technically right, but at one point someone listed a bunch of indie rock bands and asked if i listened to them and i felt like a poser (fake term but real, real feeling.) emo-pop felt like the closest thing because the rym page for it made the most sense, but... well. i guess it still doesn't feel exactly right. i don't really think anything will feel "exactly" right, which isn't bad, but gets annoying when you're trying to edit a tiktok and don't know what buzzwords fit best.
